Fish emulsion is a superior organic tomato fertilizer because the results produced are truly incredible. The second you bite into your first harvested tomato, you’ll be delighted. You won’t even understand how you used any other fertilizer and got away with it. Your neighbors will gawk, questioning what your top secret ingredient is.

The chelated nutrients allow your tomato plants’ roots to absorb what they need, as required, and loss to ground water will be little to none. A great bonus is that you don’t risk any shock from fertilizing like you risk when using a synthetic fertilizer.

Chances are that any problems you’ve had with your tomato production in the past, you’ve been using the wrong tomato fertilizer. Fish emulsion is going to increase your yields by massive amounts. Its nutrients are a finer quality than other organic fertilizers, giving you higher yields and better tasting tomatoes.

You won’t have to worry about chemicals running off into water sources, or being seeped up through the ground. Your pets won’t be in harms way when they’re playing in the yard. You’ll have a wonderful peace of mind knowing that the tomato fertilizer you’re using is 100% safe for your family pets included. Your family will be eating the best quality tomatoes possible and you’ll be able to share your harvest with family and friends, and even be able to save some for the winter too. Growing Organic Food: Why It Is Important For You and the Environment06.23.09

Today we are exposed to a great deal of toxins and harmful chemicals, and beacuse of that growing organic food is becoming more and more important by the day.

When non organic food is produced it is regularly sprayed with toxins. This is to protect it from various plant diseases caused by micro organisms, fungi and bugs.

However, these harmful chemicals are not only harmful to these living entities, but also to many other living things, including humans.

But how do these toxins get to us then? Well, for one thing they remain to a certain extent in the plant itself; thereby making you ingest toxins as you eat (doesn’t sound all that delicious, right?). They also trickle down into the ground water, which we drink, use for food preparation and perhaps for watering crops. Some chemicals even spread through the air if the crops are sprayed when it is not absolutely windless.

The health is effected in many ways, for example making you feel depressed or enervated, and there are serious suspicions they might cause cancer. Harm is also being done to the wildlife, in some cases making species extinct. All this makes it really important to avoid the chemicals whenever you are able to.

Once knowing all these facts, growing organic food seems like quite an idea, right?

Then how do you go about doing this? Do you have to be a professional gardener, knowing all the nitty-gritties? Absolutely not. You need to have an interest, you need to enjoy working in the garden, and you need to be willing to learn some basic steps.

Engage your children! Most children like gardening, at least some part of it. My own daughter loves sowing and watering the seeds, as well as harvesting the veggies or the flowers. The weeding and the watering during the growing period she gladly leaves to me, although she takes interest in how the growing proceeds.

It is well worth it to put some effort into your gardening, as you will be able to present your family with the freshest and healthiest food ever, all coming from your own garden, tiny, small or large.

Use Organic Fertilizers – Earth Day’s Message04.15.09

Earth Day was established on April 22nd 1970 by Senator Gaylord Nelson. Its initial purpose was to provide a platform for all the different environmentalist groups to unite under a single day to thrust forward their message of conservation and environmental preservation. The movement was successful with over 20 million people participating world wide by marches and rallies in the name of Earth Day.

The main theme of the day is to remind citizens of the earth for the need for conservation. It provided a platform for environmentalists to call on nations, global policy makers and even private citizens for the need to conserve our precious environment.

One important step in the conservation movement is to use renewable energy and to use all natural products where possible. Just by following these two steps we are certainly able to make significant progress in our environmental conservation goals. A large of this has focused on proper manufacturing and use of fertilizers.

Research over the years have confirmed that chemical fertilizers have contributed significantly to damage on soils and farm lands due almost directly to their use. They leach precious minerals from soils and effectively kill soils. Their widespread use post-war resulted in huge crop yields but also later desertification of those lands which previously yielded so much.

In addition to damaging soils and destroying long term natural fertility, the run-off leached from the use of highly soluble fertilizer has also caused huge damage to the surrounding water systems such as lakes and rivers who suffer from the access nitrification which causes access weed growth, algae blooms and eventual death of most of the fish in the water systems. This level of upset in the eco system has been likened to the affects of oil spills.

The best alternative is to focus on the use of natural and organic fertilizers. As the products used to manufacture natural organic fertilizers are natural and clean, there is almost no risk of upsetting the local eco-system with their use. The earth really has no place for synthetic chemical fertilizers and its devastating side-affects.

Organic fertilizers use natural raw products such as fish, seaweed or even common waste to make fertilizers. Whatever is taken from the earth in terms of raw input is returned directly to the earth as the final product. There is very little waste and no imbalances in the natural ecology that occur when these fertilizers are applied. Plants and soils will greatly benefit from these fertilizers as they nourish the soil and provide vital nutrients that synthetic fertilizers have no hope in providing.

Although we are used to the idea of large corporations and industrial farms changing their practices to favor environmentally friendly practices, action from individual private citizens can also be very helpful. We can start by changing out law fertilizing habits by buying only naturally organic products and keep from overusing products in favor of conservation.

Although we have made dire mistakes in the past by neglecting the needs of our ecosystem we are by no means beyond saving ourselves. We instead need to be steadfast and look to the future. It is only through our work that our children can enjoy the 100th anniversary of Earth Day looking back saying that their parents succeeded in making a difference.
